Korkealla kaupungin kattojen yläpuolella kohoaa Onnellisen prinssin patsas. Pieni pääsky on matkalla Egyptiin talvehtimaan, mutta pysähtyy levähtämään patsaan juureen. Tästä alkaa ystävyys, joka kasvaa tarinaksi rakkaudesta ja epäitsekkyydestä. Talven tulosta huolimatta pääsky päättää jäädä prinssin luo ja auttaa prinssiä toimittamaan hyviä tekoja kaupungissa.

Onnellinen prinssi on Oscar Wilden rakastettu satuklassikko, jonka hän kirjoitti omille pojilleen vuonna 1888. Nukketeatterikeskus Poijun näyttämösovituksen on kirjoittanut Miina Turunen, joka myös näyttelee Onnellisen prinssin tarinan. Esitys nojaa vahvaan tarinankerrontaan, jota syventää eri tekniikoita varioiva nukke- ja esineilmaisu.

The story of the Happy Prince is an allegory. It brings out the importance of charity. It is a tale with multiple lessons. From one side it is the critic of the society that can be cruel and heartless and on the other side, it is a beautiful love-story; the story about the compassion towards humans troubles.
The prince in the story is no living prince. He is the statue of a dead prince decorated with gold leaves and precious stones. He is known as the Happy Prince because he knew only about nice things during his life. As a statue he cannot help his tears after seeing the misery in the houses of the poor of his town. He decides to help them with his gold leaves and costly stones.
The little swallow acts as his messenger. The swallow is on his way to Egypt when the prince detains him. Night by night the swallow decides to stay with the prince for helping the poor until he doesn’t want to leave anymore. He is too much in love with the prince. The swallow is the proof that everyone can do selfless things even though they would be risking their lives.
The winter comes and the intense cold kills the swallow. His death breaks the prince’s heart. But their death is not the end. It makes them immortal. That is why the angel selects the dead swallow and the lifeless heart of the prince as the noblest things on earth to be brought to her father.
Our Happy Prince is the story about hope and comforting compassion.

DEN LYCKLIGA PRINSEN
Högt över stadens tak höjer sig den lyckliga prinsens staty. Den lilla svalan som är påväg till Egypten för att övervintra, stannar till för att vila vid statyns fötter. Här börjar en vänskap som växer till en berättelse om kärlek och osjälviskhet. Trots att vintern kommer bestämmer sig den lilla svalan för att stanna hos den lyckliga prinsen och hjälpa honom att utföra goda gärningar i staden.
Den lycklig prinsen är Oscar Wildes älskade sagoklassiker från år 1888. Dockteatercentret Poiju framför sin version av sagan där sagoberättandet fördjupas genom dockteater.
